The Elora Farmers’ Market is a true farmers’ market established in 2006 in the village of Elora. We are classed as a ‘true’ farmers’ market in that at least 60% of our vendors are true growers/producers.
We believe in the circular food economy and it starts with local farmers connecting with their community in a commerce of healthy, sustainable food.
We currently operate as the Elora Farmers’ Market Association and oversee the Elora Farmers’ Market. The members of the association are the full time market vendors. All members of the association have a vote at the annual meeting.
Our market provides locally grown and made food from our vendors to our community and beyond. We operate our walk through market weekly on Saturdays. This year we started on June 13th instead of May 2 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
As per all public farmers’ markets in Wellington County, we operate at the approval of our local health unit (WDGPH). They would not allow any markets to operate before the June 13th date. We all must enforce specific Covid-19 protocols as approved by the health unit.
We now also operate an online market with a pick up hub at our Saturday location. It was unclear whether we would actually be able to have a ‘live’ market and developing an online market seemed a critical alternative to getting fresh, local food to our community and support our farmers. This is a new initiative that gained traction for customers and vendors with the Covid-19 pandemic. https://www.localline.ca/elora-farmers-market
We now offer both options of a walk through and online market with hub pick up and believe in this model going forward.
We are operating at our winter location through November and December.
